About Vancouver Finlandia Club

The Vancouver Finlandia Club (VFC) is a vibrant community, with a mix of Finnish, Canadian, Scandinavian, and many other peoples who come together celebrate Finnish culture and enjoy activities together in and around Vancouver and the lower mainland.

The VFC was formed in 1971 in an attempt to unify the Finnish organizations already in existence in Vancouver. It is a non-profit, non-religious and non-political organization whose goals are to help Finnish people feel welcome in Canada and to let Canadians know about the Finnish language, culture and interests.

Vancouver Finlandia Club provides support for the adult folk dancing group – Purpurit Folk Dancers, supports language lessons for children and adults through the FinnFun School of Vancouver, and holds numerous social events throughout the year and maintains a Finnish-language library at the Scandinavian Community Centre. The Länsirannikon Uutiset / West Coast News is published by the Vancouver Finlandia Club and a subscription (10 issues annually) is included in the cost of VFC membership.

The VFC is a wonderful group of people, many of whom dedicate time and energy to help the Club continue to thrive. It is a pleasure to welcome new members and see old friends at events and activities.
